This is amazing that it ever kept any water out. What they used for counterflashing on this skylight is step flashing. These are the pieces that should be used instead of bending the shinglse up the side of the skylight. Sealing that flashing with chaulk is doomed to leak too. The flashing kit from Velux requires no chaulking.



Why they thought this section did not need their rigged flashing, I do not know. We are going to install the correct flashing kit. When we do the repair, I will be able to give a better explaination of what they did.
I will take pictures as we take the area apart and put it back together.
